MCBI is a nonprofit entity established to build bioinformatics infrastructure and promote bioinformatics research, product development and education in Michigan. MCBI’s goals are to help advance biological research and technology and create jobs in research and industry in Michigan through promotion of bioinformatics.

MCBI’s Programs

The Michigan Center for Biological Information provides advanced bioinformatics and computational resources for investigators in the academic and industrial sectors of Michigan. Researchers will have access to bioinformatics tools, genomics and proteomics databases, supercomputing resources, bioinformatics training, and bioinformatics consulting through MCBI. MCBI is researching appropriate hardware, middleware, and networking structures for state-wide analysis and data-sharing in bioinformatics projects. A key role of the center is to enhance communications and help establish collaborations between academic and industry members in the other CTA cores, since bioinformatics touches all of these groups. Please explore our web site for more comprehensive descriptions of our programs.

MCBI’s Summary

MCBI’s Directors

MCBI has a hub at each node of the CTA, i.e. University of Michigan, Van Andel Institute, Wayne State, and Michigan State University. Dr. Brian Athey, from the University of Michigan, is the director of MCBI. Most of our staff is located at the University of Michigan, however there is also a director with their own staff at each node.

Our four directors and staff are listed on our personnel page. By having staff spread across the four CTA nodes, we are easily able to link in to the bioinformatics needs of the genomics (MCGT), proteomics (MPC), structural biology (MCSB), and animal model (MAMC) cores of the CTA.
