MCBI Databases

MCBI provides resources to Michigan researchers for the construction of new databases for biological information, including server space, technical support, archiving, security, and maintenance. Databases can be private or made public for publishing data and allowing access to Michigan researchers and others. Our initial database will contain microarray data (projects, microarray database). We are also working a number of other database projects. Researchers and small biotechs can apply for room on MCBI’s servers to develop new types of databases in a secure environment. Please see our Bioinformatics Architecture Project for a description of our database infrastructure.

Applying for Database Development:

Please write a one page proposal describing your project, and e-mail it to MCBI at bleu@umich.edu

Funding and Costs:
Please contact MCBI regarding funding a database project. Because MCBI is building infrastructure to accommodate bioinformatics databases, and we are a non-profit, we can host a bioinformatics database at a reduced cost. Costs are calculated according to the amount of additional server disc space that must be purchased, the portion of an administrator’s time that would be required, web development, and consulting time from our bioinformatics or database and supercomputing architecture experts, if required.

Small projects can be accommodated immediately with little or no cost, however long-term projects require funding. MCBI is a nonprofit; however we must recover our administrative costs. We are happy to provide information about our resources to assist in applications for grant monies.
