Commercial Software Licenses and Evaluations
           

MCBI evaluates bioinformatics software and negotiates statewide licenses for particularly popular programs in order to reduce costs for our bioinformatics users. When the vendors will consider it, we also try to negotiate reduced-pricing for our small-biotech users (Michigan-based only). One of MCBI’s goals is to provide training and move bioinformatics tools into the hands of our Michigan researchers. Please contact nwbeeson@umich.edu for information about these programs. Research scientists are welcome to contact us and join one of our user groups if you are interested in participating in an evaluation. We are currently working with the following software offerings:

Silicon Genetics GeneSpring/GeNet:

  • MCBI has purchased a GeneSpring Key Server that can be used for free by academic users.

  • MCBI has negotiated reduced pricing for academic and business users for GeneSpring.

  • MCBI is currently re-evaluating GeNet, with a new security implementation.
